Hi everyone. With winter quickly approaching, my hiking season is just about done. I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to winter hiking. With so much free time on my hands. I’ve decided to honor one of my absolute favorite pieces of gear. I have extolled their virtues on a few of my previous trip reports, but I do believe they deserve a dedicated post all to themselves.
I’m speaking, of course, about my Darn Tough Socks. I never leave home without them. They are so good, in fact, that over the past few years, I have replaced my entire sock drawer with these wonderful merino wool delights. They don’t just make hiking socks, either; they have styles for any occasion.

So without further ado, I am proud to present:
A NAME SO APTLY CHOSEN: One Hiker’s Ode to Their Darn Tough Socks
Darn Tough, a name so aptly chosen,
Your merino wool fibers, neat and tightly woven.
Through rugged hikes and winter’s bite,
You protect my feet, both day and night.
'O'er mountains, through bogs, and fields I trod,
And you remain steadfast, keeping me awed.
Thy colors bright,
with designs that delight.
Not snow, rain, or sun’s blinding rays,
Will diminish your fellowship past every blaze.
So here’s to thee, my faithful Darn Tough sock. A name so aptly chosen.
Your praises I shall sing every time I put my toes in.
In all seriousness, if you are looking for great socks, look no further than these Vermont-made classics. They also do a lot of good for the state of Vermont, raising money for food banks, supporting long-distance trails, and all sorts of other charitable endeavors. After spending almost a month in the Green Mountain State, I can tell you the people there swear by them. Countless other hikers do as well.
I like Darn Tough so much, I am writing this unprompted, for free. With that being said, if they ever did want to throw some free socks my way, I wouldn’t say no.
P.S. Special thanks to my good friend Trevor Miller for reading and editing this. If you are a fan of vinyl, you should check out his software company, Moose Vinyl. They are working to make the process of buying, selling, and appraising vinyl records effortless.
